50kg Load Cell: Dependable Accuracy for Field and Factory

50kg load cell

A 50kg load cell often ends up in places where you can't afford to swap it out frequently—under a small hopper, inside a test rig, or buried in a monitoring setup. Once it's installed, the data just needs to stay clean. At Kingmach, we build these sensors for the middle ground: solid enough to hold their calibration, and flexible enough to adapt when your mounting points don't match the catalog. You'll see them in benchtop scales, cable tension monitors, and low-capacity silo weighing. The common thread is that someone, at some point, had to trust the numbers without getting a second opinion. We get that.

Technical Detail

Configured around process stability, mold life, and long-term uptime.

The 50kg load cell range at Kingmach covers single-point, S-type, and canister formats—each tuned for the mechanical arrangement you're working with, not the other way around. Most bodies are machined from aluminum alloy or alloy steel, with strain gauge networks bonded and sealed inside. A typical unit runs at 2.0±0.1 mV/V output sensitivity, fed by 5–12 V DC excitation. Nonlinearity is held within 0.02–0.05% F.S. in standard production. Depending on the sealing method, you can specify IP65 for indoor bench use or IP68 for long-term outdoor burial. Compensated temperature range spans -10℃ to +40℃, with safe operation from -20℃ to +70℃. For less common mountings—bolt patterns that don't exist off the shelf, cable exit on the side instead of the back, or a flanged body for retrofitting—our engineering team adjusts the design without turning it into a special-order project. Global distributors mean you're not waiting on a single factory backlog, and pre-shipment calibration data comes with every unit. If your DAQ expects 4-20mA or RS485 instead of raw mV, we pair the cell with a matched amplifier or transmitter.

FAQ

Common technical questions

Can a 50kg load cell be used for a small platform scale?

Yes, a single-point 50kg cell is actually sized for that. You'll typically mount it under a platform roughly 300×300mm or smaller. Just make sure the load stays centered—off-center loading can introduce errors even if you're within the rated capacity.

What's the practical difference between IP65 and IP67 protection on a 50kg cell?

IP65 keeps dust out and handles light water jets, so it's fine for washdown areas in food processing. IP67 means the cell can be submerged up to 1 meter for 30 minutes. If you're installing it in a pit that might flood or an outdoor monitoring station, spring for IP67 or IP68.

We need a non-standard mounting thread—can the cell body be modified?

In most cases, yes. Kingmach machines the elastomer from bar stock, so thread size and center distance can be adjusted without retooling the entire cell. Lead time extends slightly, but you won't end up welding adapter plates that compromise the load path.

Do I need a signal conditioner, or can I connect the mV output directly to a PLC?

That depends on your PLC's analog input. If it has a dedicated strain gauge input (sensing mV/V), you can wire it directly. More commonly, you'll need a strain gauge amplifier or transmitter that converts to 0-10V or 4-20mA. Kingmach can supply the cell with a matched amplifier already trimmed to your span.

How do you handle calibration shifts over time in a 50kg sensor?

Creep and zero drift are part of sensor physics—our design minimizes them, but they're not zero. We include a factory calibration sheet, and we recommend a yearly check with a known deadweight. For critical loops, an in-line calibration verification adapter can be added to the mounting assembly so you can hang a reference weight without disconnecting the load cell.
